Overeating & Under-eating – both compulsive behaviors

Emotions are at the root of eating problems. Eating problems frequently occur along with other problems such as depression and anxiety. The most common problem, however, is overeating. Eating problems are serious behaviors and may include extreme and unhealthy reduction of food intake or severe overeating, as well as feelings of distress or extreme concern about body shape or weight. They are not due to a failure of will or behavior, but rather originate in the subconscious mind, under unwanted defense mechanisms. Symptoms associated with under-eating include: rapid weight loss, dieting even though weight is already very low, having an intense fear of gaining weight, believing the body is fat when it is really very thin, watching every bite of food, eating in secret, having an unusual interest in food, over-exercising, becoming very depressed or anxious, infrequent or absent menstrual periods, wearing loose clothing to hide weight loss and wanting to be perfect or being highly self-critical.

Symptoms of binging/purging

Symptoms of a binging/purging problem include: large amounts of food eaten then vomited, fear of weight gain, use laxatives, diuretics, and vigorous exercise, fasting, secret eating behaviors, frequenting bathrooms use after eating, depression and mood swings, chewing and spitting out foods, preoccupation with food and weight, irregular menstrual periods, drug or alcohol abuse, feelings of anxiousness and intense feelings of guilt or shame. Because of frequent vomiting, people with binge/purge syndrome expose themselves to higher than average amounts of stomach acid, which over time can lead to physical problems. These may include a sore or bleeding throat, stomach problems, heartburn, bloating, swollen glands in the cheeks and face, and tooth decay.

Symptoms of Overeating

Symptoms of overeating include: Shame over their weight, hiding food, craving certain foods and not being able to stop eating them, eating in secret, preoccupation with food, secret eating, and associated depression over not being able to control their eating. Consequences of weight gain can lead to diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and isolation.

Mental triggers are eliminated

The root cause of over/under-eating and binging/purging have negative emotions that are stored in the subconscious mind under unwanted defense mechanisms. The Sidman Solution® has been successful in treating hundreds of sufferers by quickly accessing and releasing these negative emotions. The triggers that stimulate these compulsive behaviors are then eliminated. The behaviors naturally are restored to healthier ways of dealing with food.
